A week and a half ago, we decided to sow some grass.
We hired our friend Olivier, who is a pro, and were glad we did because there are all sorts of things about successfully sowing grass that we didn’t know. Like you need to plough the earth, then rake it even, sow seeds very heavily on the borders where people walk and scatter them liberally over the terrain. You need to roll a heavy barrel to stamp down the earth over the grains and then scatter even more seeds on top for the birds to eat so they won’t dig up the earth to eat what’s underneath.
I didn’t realize just how important a peaceful exterior was to my psyche until I saw this:
When it used to be this:
So here’s Olivier finishing up the last of the lawn (and trimming our apple tree for us in the process). He said we should start to see some green by Saturday (one week later).
And here’s our lawn a week and half later.
We had an early frost and …. we had a huge, long, hard hail storm. It would hail, wouldn’t it? Just when we were trying to grow grass?
But here’s to hoping!
P.S. I’m very excited. Sir and I leave for our anniversary trip to the Loire Valley tomorrow for four days. I promise to take pictures of all the chateaux for you.
P.P.S. I hope God will water our grass with nice temperate rain while we’re gone. I’ll say a “hail mary” (har har)

Loving the new look, looks brilliant. And thank you for your comment, I think I mainly know of Jerry Hall because of her relationship with Mick Jagger..

Peaceful surroundings make my mind relax.

I feel your pain. I sowed grass seed at the beginning of summer, not knowing it would be the hottest one since 1980. Of course it mostly died, but I’ve tried again and it’s looking good so far.
The Loire Valley! Love it there. Have a wonderful trip….

So, you may not have grass yet… but what a difference in the before photos! It must be nice to have all of the construction stuff gone!
