On Saturday, Sir and I went to a wedding. I had planned on wearing heels,
but decided on long black boots instead.
Out of respect for the couple who are on their honeymoon and haven’t even seen the pictures themselves, I’ll include just a few shots here with no direct views of faces that could threaten their privacy.
It was a simple wedding, with simple decorations. One might even say it was a (gasp) « budget wedding. »
But it was more beautiful than some weddings with the grandest decor because everyone was there to serve and to rejoice with the couple. There were no screaming fights between the bride and the sister-in-law (I know some wedding photographers – I know these things happen). And all the guests were eager to do what they could to clear the chairs from the ceremony and set the tables for dinner, and other things like that.
The groom asked for an intimate moment with his bride right after the vows, so the deejay put some music on so that no one could hear what he was saying to his wife-to-be. And then they exchanged rings.
(The little face peering out is Young Lady’s best friend. She’s half Italian, so they have the bilingual thing going on).
After the wedding the groom kept looking at the ring on his left hand in amazement.
The bride is a designer, and she made her own silk dress.
There was even a poetic photo montage set to music showing the making of the dress. Anyone with any sort of eye can see what an exquisite creation it was. But the montage was also fun to watch because the bride has a good sense of humor. There were shots of her with her hair in a loose knot, blowing a fallen tendril of hair up in exasperation. There were other shots of the snow outside of her Parisian apartment, and their names written in the fog on the window.
The cake was created by the former Chief Pastry Chef at the Tour d’Argent (before he decided to do something with less pressure and have weekends and evenings to spend with his family). It’s nice to have friends in high places.
(There were no cake shots without the couple in clear view, so I didn’t include any here).
However, there was some pretty amazing food. That’s something the French never skimp on!
There was lots of laughing, lots of entertainment, a spontaneous (and good) performance of Johnny Hallyday by a friend who is usually such a quiet man!
And there were lots of other wedding things like that. It was a happy day.

So many great things in this post! I love that the groom asked for a moment with his bride after the vows, and that dress is exquisite. This sounds better than so many high-cost nuptials I’ve been to….
Very nice photos too. 🙂

If I could do it all over again, I would change my wedding day from the big, orchestrated event it was to a quiet, simple, lovely day. I was so tired and stressed from being pulled everywhere to say hello to my 300 plus guests and smiling for photos, I forgot to savor the beauty that was that day. I did love my wedding, but I would have made it more about us than everyone else.
The wedding looked beautiful and her dress looks absolutely stunning.

But Joann, somehow I couldn’t imagine your wedding without some serious glam! 😉

I just attended my grandson’s wedding in the mountains of North Carolina. It was held outside in a horse pasture. It is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever attended. After the exchange of rings, the bride and groom knelt and prayed together as their first act of marriage. The all of the attendants gathered round them and a family member offered prayer for them. After Andrew kissed Julianna, they danced out to the Irish tune, “Star of the County Down.”
I just found your blog through The Pioneer Woman.

Wilma, thank you for visiting! Your grandson’s wedding sounds unbelievable. Perfect way to start a marriage too, I’d say.

I love simple weddings, where the grandest thing on display is the couple’s love and commitment to each other. And a winter wedding … stunning!

She made a beautiful dress!

I love that they included the making of the dress and that the dress itself was such a focal point of the wedding. Very memorable. And kudos to the bride – job well done!

And this is right up your alley. I felt a little outraged that your beautiful blog only had 10 followers, so I had to make it 11!

I love the way you made the wedding couple a mystery. I kept wanting to see pictures of them. How amazing to get married in the beginning of December and have snow in France! What a beautiful day!

I am seriously in awe that you had such an altruistic start to your marriage. BRAVO!

I love weddings they remind me of my day. I wish I was able to have made my own dress. The last shot with the light is just perfect. She seems so Angelic. Another wedding bliss. I am very happy for them.
