Cold does not have to mean that it’s unlovely. See the grass taking form?
See the tiny lavender plant in the corner of the yard that has survived despite Sir dumping a bucket of mud all over it? “Oh – I wondered what that thing was sticking up out of the mud. It didn’t look like a weed.”
See the little rose bushes that will one day bloom and make my heart sing?
However, today it is unlovely. And cold. Not cold enough to snow like it was supposed to, though.
This, by the way, is one of Sir’s projects. He’s making a natural wall by pounding stakes into the earth and weaving the branches from the ash and tilleul tree that we trimmed. That way we’ll be able to hide the vegetable garden from view and have something to stake the raspberry bushes to.
(Don’t you just love a man who wields a sledgehammer? In a pacifistic way?)
It’s going to be awesome.
And there’s some lovely warmth indoors. Warmth from the hyacinth that sits at the top of our stairs and sends its perfume in fragrant wafts down the stairwell.
Well Hiya Cynth! Don’t you smell nice.
There’s warmth from the other batch of cookies we made to give to our neighbors.
And from the sugar high that accompanies it.
Oh Petit Prince aren’t you funny? I bet you’re the first person to ever think of taking off your pants for humor! How funny. You’re just so funny. I love how you do that all day long. Every day.
But it beats a sick Petit Prince who projectile vomits all over our dinner table while we’re eating (à la The Exorcist).
How’s that diet working out for you there Jen?
A Petit Prince whom I was sure was completely immunized against every conceivable illness when I passed by the bathroom and saw him take out his tétine (pacifier) and dip it in the toilet with practiced deftness before popping it back in his mouth.
Aaaaaaaaaagh!
We’ll try to beat the cold when we traipse out this evening to bring the cookies to our neighbors.
A little warmth never hurt anybody.

Your photos are always so beautiful. And even when you declare it unlovely, you have a way of bringing out the beauty with that camera of yours.
And that toilet story, yow! When one of my girls was small, I caught her with my husband’s toothbrush scrubbing the inside of the toilet. When I asked her what she was doing, she told me she was “helping mommy clean.” She then informed me that she’d been helping mommy clean for awhile now with daddy’s toothbrush.
It took him awhile to find the humor in that.
Your cookies look scrumptious.

My husband found the humor in that right away! 😉

Oh, your garden is going to be wonderful! Can’t wait to see the pics this spring too.
Aye, aye, aye on the toilet story! The things kids think of….

Loving the pictures so much. Gorgeous! But, the projectile vomit and toilet stories I should not have read on a full stomach. Feel a bit queasy now!

Oh my gosh I’m so sorry (even though I’m totally laughing right now). All my posts are going to have to come with warnings up top. Sorry to beat you over the head with rabbits religion and v–.

I imagine that hyacinth does smell lovely.
Sorry about the projectile vomiting. That is never fun – for the child or the mother. Hope he feels better soon!

I’ve seen fences like that before and they’re beautiful! And the lavender… it’s my absolute favorite! I have a lot of it growing in my garden.

Nicely read and always with your touch of humor. It’s nice that you can see beauty in everything around you. I love your ballerina and pray that little prince gets better soon. Thanks for taking time out to wish me a happy birthday by the way. I really am in my early forties. After all these years it’s also nice to still have you as a friend.

The toilet dipping of pacifier… wow. That’s all I can say. But seeing everyone made me so excited to see you in person! However I do kind of wish we were coming to France instead. Because I don’t have a woven gate in my back yard.

I do love sledgehammer-wielding pacifists. I have one at my house, too, along with a little boy who loves going pantless. =>
PS: Hope the germs partir soon!

How did your blog explode into something so beautiful and lovely?
How you do not have 1,000 subscribers, I don’t understands. But, then, there’s a lot of things about the world’s tastes I don’t understand.
I love the little corner you have for me here. I truly do.
Happy Holidays, wonderful lady. So happy to have met you, and so grateful for the beauty you bring into my life.
