Hi friends, before I tell you all about being rich, I just wanted to mention that I’m going away for two weeks with the kids and will have to go to an internet café in order to get online. That means it won’t be happening as often as I might like. Even on vacation it’s nice to check in, hm? I’ll miss you all.
(Note to interested thieves: I’m sorry to say the house will not be unattended at this time).
If I were rich, I would hire caterers to cook healthy low calorie meals (that I would probably negate by eating candy bars), and then I would never again have to set foot in this infernal kitchen.
Alright, I’m being hasty. I do so like to cook. So then I would have a full-time maid and wouldn’t go to so much trouble just to get a stinkin dishwasher that doesn’t fit unless we break the existing cabinetry. (Although the cabinets were ugly anyway).
If I were rich, I would fly away to a tropical beach and let someone else worry about the details of moving those silly possessions hither and fro.
And then I wouldn’t have to balance my way across a rolled up carpet to get to my bed.
If I were rich, I would have a foreman to ensure that the workers don’t use my gardening tools to spread the cement.
And I would have a lead architect to contact the town hall and find out that we are not allowed to add a bathroom to our existing studio in order to make an independent residence before we start digging. #idiot
And I would never ever again set foot in Ikea. #marriagecounselorneededatcheckout
I cannot bear this chaos and uncertainty. I am a bitter, bitter woman.
What’s that? Daddy’s doing what?
Oh my goodness – you lucky kids.
Heh heh. It’s cold huh?
There’s nothing better than a rainbow of sprinkles on a steamy day.
Oh Petit Prince, I know how you feel. It’s just too delicious, isn’t it?
Okay, I’m not a bitter woman perhaps. Just a grouchy disgruntled one.
But only when I forgot I am rich.
Those kitchen renovations take me back a few years when I did the same thing. I think that the frustration and crazy contractors and chaos is universal. Two weeks into the project without a sink or stove or countertops, he disappeared. I never heard from him again. Ugh.
Hope you have a nice vacation without too much worry about your kitchen.
I hope he didn’t disappear with your money too. But even without that, contractors don’t like to take half-finished projects. What a nightmare that must have been.
So.true.
We are richer than any woman wearing diamonds and pearls, our children are our riches.
You said it my dear.
OMG, you are very brave. Will it magically be completed by the time you arrive home? Enjoy your time away and your much deserved break!
One can always dream huh? The counter will be slightly delayed though, but if we can have cupboards and fridge and stove in place, that’s a start.
I think you’ve put your finger on the essential tug of parenthood: frustration vs. wonder. And I for one think it’s okay for both to exist: I’d be frustrated too by those renovations and would then swoon at that beautiful boy.
Here’s to many days ahead when the swoons outnumber the frustrations.
Good luck with the kitchen and enjoy your trip! (And you made me giggle with your note to potential thieves; my mom always gives me a hard time when I write on my blog about upcoming travel.)
“where the swoons outnumber the frustrations”
This, my friend, is poetry.
Remember when Mark walked into our kitchen-under-construction, turned around and left because he thought he had walked into the wrong house?
No – I don’t remember that at all! I hardly even remember the kitchen being redone. It seems that Picasso wallpaper was always there.
Perfect! (And the pictures of your house look strangely familiar. Almost like I just had my kitchen redone or something.) Have fun on vacay, gorgeous!
Renovations are so hard! And so stressful! Good luck!!!!
Water time in the backyard is always so much fun!!!
That was a good thought for today. I complain alot about my tiny house that is FILLED with too much because I have 4 children, but I just couldn’t pick which one I wouldn’t have had as I love them all and don’t want to know what life would have been like without any one.
I know you probably look at your home and pictures and see a nightmare, but as soon as your page loaded my heart almost stopped. All that space! All that POTENTIAL! It was overwhelming. I can’t wait to see the final product and even some of the steps between here and there!
Thank you! for helping me to keep things in perspective. I will definitely post the after shots. 🙂
What more do we need in this world than our children and a partner who loves us?
(and maybe a few candy bars…)
Rich indeed.
Very.
(good luck with the renovations. this too shall pass. yes.)
Loved this. We did our kitchen a year ago and it wasn’t too bad because we kept the cabinets and had a wonderful contractor. But I had a good excuse for not cooking!
Enjoy your vacation and forget about the chaos at home.
You have completely captured it – I SO felt your bitterness! Until I saw those gorgeous butt-neked jay birds of yours. You are truly wealthy. Bon vacance!
Good luck with the kitchen and have fun while you are away. You are rich… such a beautiful family.
I hope you have a fantastic holiday, you really deserve it. x
Darn it, I was totally staking the place out…but I guess I won’t be going in to loot the place.
Have a fabulous time with the kids. I’m also on vacay for the next two weeks. Harv has taken me to a remote spot in wine country. He says it’s because I love it so much, but really, it’s because he’s afraid I’ll embarrass him in public again.
Two weeks away – savor, enjoy, relax, rejuvenate!
I so wanted to thank you for your unfailing support of my blog … I have been wading thro my sadly neglected mail and seeing your name pop up so many times with all you have going on … made me want to fly over and give you a big hug and maybe pick up a broom and lend you a hand. Having renovated aplenty … I remember it well. Hang in there, the end result, is THE END 😉
You had me at the title. Best wishes!
Still- it would be nice to have that money, wouldn’t it?
Enjoy your time away!
I never hear any GOOD stories about re-modeling in France, do they exist?
Bon voyage! I hope you come home to a big pile of money … or at least a put-together kitchen! And your kids in the sprinkler? Adorable!
Oh so true. All of it! I hope you have a fab vacation. It sounds like you need it!
Your renovations gave me anxiety all over again. I have been there, my lovely friend and it is such a painful thing. Remember the light. It is coming. Keep focused on the light.
And yes, you are rich. Look at those gorgeous little faces.
So sweet and true.
Have a great vacation and enjoy your unplugged time.
Thanks Alex. It’s pretty desperate weather. I escaped to the cyber cafe with my beach umbrella (against the torrential rain) for an hour or two of online connection, lovely in-laws notwithstanding.
