Greetings from Bretagne where you wear sweaters on the beach.
No worries, though – there are plenty of things to do. You can, for instance, jump off the wall.
You can also cry because you’re not allowed to jump off the wall.
You can pretend you’re a monkey.
You can decide that you’re going to risk getting a little wet and tramp around in the waves.
You can show your cousin how to fling handfuls of sand.
And when it’s nice and sunny, you find that you still wear sweaters on the beach.
Unless, of course, you’re young and foolhardy, in which case you actually go swimming.
(I went swimming).
And you do handstands on the beach with your cousins.
where you try to body surf down the holes because your parents had the nerve not to allow you to body surf in the waves.
And you eat really delicious food, and fall into bed exhausted at the end of each day.
And each day ends really late – this is what it looks like at ten o’clock.
Do your days end this late where you are?
And you dream a bit about the places you want to live if you could live in Bretagne. And then you realize just how happy you are with what you have right now, having life, love and vacation.
You still don’t have Internet, though, so you can’t really share the happiness as often as you might like.
Photos are adorable and full of energy. Your captions are hysterical. All in all, a perfectly perfect post. I really love ‘looking out the window.’ Oh, is that a castle you are staying in?
Not having internet sounds heavenly, actually.
Except that I’d miss your beautiful words and pictures.
Enjoy.
Gorgeous! Is there anything better than handstands on the beach? I think not. I’m glad you’re having un-Interneted fun. Enjoy 🙂
Beautiful. We went to Bretagne about a month ago and were actually blessed with warm weather. No sweaters required at the beach! Enjoy your holiday…
Absolutely beautiful! That house… oh my… there aren’t enough words to describe how perfect it is!
No sweaters here on the beach… it is much to hot!
lovely! the handstand pictures are so free and fun!
Your vacation looks like a dream. It’s what I love best about vacations, the utter dreaminess of days spent out of the normal routine, finding fun, spending time with those you love. I always feel my senses are heightened when I’m at rest, away from the daily grind.
And sweaters on the beach? Wow, an unheard of concept, here in the sunny state of Florida. You’ll be hard pressed even in the dregs of winter to wear one.
I do love the sunlight staying up late in summer. Ten is fabulous. Our sun sets about 9ish around these parts.
Lady Jennie! Where are you vacationing in Bretagne? Now I can’t believe Brittany, south of Paris, gets dark later than the city of lights (does it really?)! Hope you and your family enjoy the wonderful, but cold beautiful beaches of Bretagne.
I want to be there.
Looks lovely and restful and fun all at the same time. Enjoy yourself and soak up your family!
sounds–and looks–like a perfectly perfect beach vacation!
I traveled to Iceland two summers ago and the sun only went down for a couple of hours each night. The light you have at 10:00 was the same at 2:00 am. I never really got used to it. How to get a good night’s sleep?
Hope you’re having a wonderful vacation.
There is just so much happy fun in these photos. It’s like one of those “Wish you were here postcards” and I really do wish 🙂
Love Bretagne. You are having one great, well-deserved vacation!
I remember it was really light at 10 p.m. in Paris in July.
I’ve only been to the beach a couple of times. It looks very relaxing.
I love your picture tours… I feel like I’m there. And why oh why did you have to rub in your late sunset? That’s one of the things I miss the most, especially as I’m looking at a nearly dark sky at 8:45. Blerg.
Sigh. Internet or not I already miss Europe.
Sounds fantastic! Beautiful pics 🙂
Such fun. Our nights DO look like that and I am having a tough time adjusting to the whole family hanging out until 9:30 p.m. The one bright side of winter might be early darkness and early bedtimes 😉
Lovely. Pure lovely. Go. Be. Run away from the internet. It’s the right thing to do right now! xo
Beautiful. Especially the sweaters. xoxo
Such a dreamy post! Thanks for sharing your vacation with us:) Oh and yes, nothing better then realizing you are happy exactly where you are!
Looks like you had a wonderful time.
