Dogs need to be walked. And that means you have to go outside, no matter what the weather is.
But once you’re outside, you start to notice things.
You notice how frost covers every green leaf
and every brown.
You notice how it covers every stick,
every seed,
every pod ,
every berry,
and every surface, including the wooden gate.
You notice the sun rising quietly over the river,
the reeds swaying imperceptibly,
the green-tinged tree trunks
and the lovers’ claim to eternity.
You see the vegetables, dead and forgotten,
traces of autumn fading fast.
You notice the winter skyline
the river bank,
the willows
and the frozen dock.
Your dog needs to be walked every single darn day.
And so you notice things outdoors – just like you did when you were little.
One point for the dog, I suppose.

I will be blogging over the holiday, but not on any set day or in any set category. I shall just write whatever and whenever strikes my fancy! Happy Holidays! 🙂
I wonder if the scenes in the pictures you posted lose any of their beauty for you because of their familiarity? To me, they are stunning.

Thank you Mama D. It helps to have the camera because I’m forced to notice things. I regretted not having it the day there was fog AND frost – it was magical. 🙂
Happy Holidays to you as well!
I hear ya with the dog – I go out with mine three times a day… and I do notice that it’s been good for my immune system, but lately, at -25 C, I notice that the snot freezes in my nose, lol.

I am supposed to go out 3x a day. He needs to run about 3x a day. But I don’t. I am a bad dog-owner. He gets one hour run in the morning and that is it.
I wish the walks I took with my silly dog were so scenic! My pictures would be of frost on the cigarette butt, this pop can, the recycling bin….

I avoid the graffiti and garbage shots. 😉
Stunning. And you are an angel. All I can think when I have to walk the dog in that kind of cold is how horribly cold I am.

North America cold and Paris cold are two entirely different beasts! 🙂
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 🙂
thanks for letting me enjoy these photos and the frost along with you. three cheers for walking the dog!
He’s supposed to get 3 hours of exercise a day, and he gets one if he’s lucky. But I still think he’s better off than in cage in some dog kennel. I have to try and not feel too guilty.
Somehow you make walking the dog seem less like a chore and more like a destination. Great pictures!! xo

Once I get out, I do like the walk. But it’s so hard to get out, especially when I can hear the wind and rain whistling down the chimney.
The frost is actually very beautifull. I’ll trade it for this miserable rain any day.

Hey! Did you send us wind and rain down here? Cuz that’s what we got today. 😉
So pretty…sometimes the hardest part for me is just getting out of the house (when it’s freezing cold!). But once I do I am so much happier!
Totally get what you are saying J!

The joy of going out is that you get to come back in! And you don’t feel guilty for just staying in. 🙂
BRILLIANT)))
Dogs can teach us to savor the moments.

Merry Christmas.

Which is why we have them, even when they roll in poop! 🙂
Oh, that is so lovely; I love to look at a frosty morning. My favourite way is with a warm cup of coffee in hand, but I am so glad that a camera was in your hands that morning to capture all that beauty. 🙂

Aw thanks friend! Right at this very moment, it’s windy and rainy. And I’m glad to be inside with coffee rather than outside with a camera.
But who will walk the dog? (cough) husband (I hope)
Thank you! 🙂 And he does. But even more so in the snow! If we could get some snow, he would be really pretty.
Happy Holidays my friend. xoxo
