It seems that everybody is doing a year in review of their best stuff for 2012 so I thought I would do the same. Not that I think for one minute you’re actually going to click on any of the links, but at least you can look at the pictures, and will know what went on, right?
I’m hooking up with Robin from Farewell Stranger, who is offering a blog evaluation report and blog strategy from Little Love Media as a gift to one of the participants. (There’s a second link-up down below. Read on).
So here goes:
In January, I wrote « Just a Vestige » as I tried to cope with the remaining feelings and physical remnants of my December 26 miscarriage.
In February . . . I feel like Maurice Sendak’s Chicken Soup with Rice – “In February it’s so nice, while slipping on the sliding ice, to sip hot chicken soup with rice. Sipping once, Sipping twice, sipping chicken soup with rice.”
Anyway … in February I wrote “Oh Pooh!” (oh poux?) as I described the very belated D&C and came home to all three children with heads full of lice. (I don’t think the two are related).
In March I wrote “A Sense of Security,” the third part in the series on Basic Necessities that reminisced about my time in Africa.
In April, I went to Provence!
In May, I posted lovely Senior High pictures in my post called “Senior (Citizen) Hottie” har har
In June, I indulged in some French political gossip.
In July we made our annual trek to Bretagne with the clan of in-laws.
In August I got to go to my first BlogHer conference, which was so much fun (partly for the reason that it was my first girl’s weekend away in I don’t remember how long).
We also went to Lacanau-Océan, more commonly known as Bordeaux. We are so not going to be able to afford to travel this year since the entire family is flying to the States.
In September we went to Brussels. Oh yes we did! We were off again!
In October I talked about my failed psychiatrist appointments, where he kept talking on the phone during my session. Ahem.
In November we got a scrap of pedigree fur named Hunter. He’s downstairs right now forcing the rubber tire into submission.
In December I found beauty in the light of winter, even as I faced the 19th anniversary of my brother’s suicide and the 1st anniversary of my miscarriage. My brother died on January 3d, but I remember it today, January 4th because I was in Asia and I got the call the next morning.
Well, I’m being just a little tongue-in-cheek, but there was a lot of fun in all the places we visited, wasn’t there? It was really good for me to remember that.
In keeping with all the folks linking up to Nicole’s blog “Sisters from Another Mister“ with their one word for the year, I think I’m going to choose the word “fun.” Just that. I was going to choose “discipline,” which I sorely need, but that’s not very fun, now is it?
If you have a blog and link up with Nicole, you have a chance of winning a necklace with the word you picked.
So I’m choosing FUN. Hope your 2013 is filled with lots of fun too.

I believe that there was fun and memories in 2012. And some wonderful family trips that many of us would love to have gone on… or maybe just me!
I hope that you & your family had a wonderful holiday.

I really hope you get a wild adventure of a trip SOON!

It was a mixed bag of a year, wasn’t it? But mostly, I think a memory-filled one.
FUN is a GREAT word for the year, I love it!

It was, but it was a good one – I’m grateful for your friendship this year.

Much wisdom in what you say, my friend.

Well, you take gorgeous pictures, but I’ve said that before. I love the cartwheel one.
And fun? Well, that’s fun! Yay!
ladyjennie says
Yes. This year I’m going to learn to do cartwheels. har har I’ll have to find a tamer way to have fun.

Oh how I have missed you. And this review reminds me why.
(As if I didn’t already know.)
Will catch up soon. Very.
And my word, this year will be PEACE.
ladyjennie says
What a perfect word for the new year, especially after the craziness of the last few months whirling around you. I miss you too, and hope you write something for us to read (as in “short term”). Happy New Year!
Melanie says
Thanks for the refresher of your year. Honestly, I’m honored to have been a witness to most of it through your blog last year – the good and not so good.
Fun. So excited for your upcoming year with Fun at the center of it. Can’t wait to see what amazing things will occur. Love you. Love your blog. Always.
Oh, my word: Cherish. Because life is going by too fast and I need to stop and appreciate and soak it all in – especially people and friends like you.
Love you bunches!
ladyjennie says
Cherish is such a perfect word for you, although I already feel like you do that. Happy New Year! 🙂 (PS Fancy coming to NY in August? Although where we would all stay is a mystery).
Andrea says
Fun is a great word to describe a year, even one filled with a little bit of sorrow, as your was.
For me, the in-between sadness makes the fun a little bit more pronounced, which is always welcome.
Great post, beautiful pictures. I’m so happy I found your blog. It is really lovely.
ladyjennie says
Oh thank you Andrea! And your right. The poignant sadness makes the joy so much sharper.

I like “fun”! I hope you win because I’d like to see you in a necklace with that on it.
Robin | Farewell, Stranger says
Some big moments remembered here. What a beautiful summary of the sadness and the hope for this year though. I hope it is fun!

I think FUN is the PERFECT WORD!!!! We all need more fun in our lives, don’t you think?
You have had quite a year and I am so very happy to have enjoyed it with you, through words and pictures.
xoxo

I’ve been choosing a theme word for the year and found it’s much better than resolutions which I break immediately.
I think the word FUN is…fun! This year my word is balance. Often I lapse into long stretches where I’m working and running errands and I realize that my life has become drudgery. Balance will remind me to be sure to get some joy in the days.
Here’s to more FUN in 2013!
