The latest buzz in Paris is about the newly-discovered, age-old skin-care from Morocco: Oil of Argan.
The testimonials read that even people with oily skin can use it and it helps acne.
But for those of us with dry skin, it’s a dream come true.
You smother it on underneath your usual cream (wiping off the excess if there is any – if your dry papery skin doesn’t soak it all up greedily).
And you revel in the softness, the newfound elasticity, the compliments. Yes, there have been compliments. From guys!
The only problem? It smells like peanuts. Or roasted beans – egg whites, someone said.
It just so happens that I had some argan oil at home, leftover from a thwarted trip to the hammam with my Moroccan friend. Can you believe they didn’t allow us to come in with our babies, even though we planned to take turns?
So I tried it and hid the peanut scent by slathering my usual cream over it, and reveled in having soft plump skin for the first time since I can remember.
Now I heard you could get Argan Oil with a rose scent, so when I was cruising by Yves Rocher, I asked if they had it and ended up buying three big bottles.
Mmm. Perfumed with rose.
But then the warnings started coming in that you may as well not bother if it’s not 100% pure Argan Oil, and YR has other oils mixed in (including rose oil).
So I plan to get this when my peanuty smelling 100% basic argan oil runs out:
Rose-scented Argan Oil from La Sultane de Saba, 21.50€ at Sephora (for an eensy weensy bottle).
You’ll be able to get that on your next trip to Paris, but in the meantime, there are some options on Amazon.com for the pure stuff (even some scented with rose). Just make sure it’s 100%.
And you can use the Yves Rocher Argan Oil (which never made any claims to being an elixir) for the body, and then you’ll smell like roses from head to toe
(with a touch of peanut).
