Vlog #4 Pronouncing French Tourist Sites

Hi everyone! I’m back with another Vlog where I give you the history and pronunciation of a few tourist sites.

In it, I’ve covered:

La Notre Dame – the gothic cathedral on l’Ile de la Cité, and I talked about the famous ice cream shop, Berthillon, located nearby.

Le Pont Neuf – the oldest bridge in Paris, though the name translates to “New bridge.”

Le Louvre – a former king’s palace, and now home of the famous museum containing the Mona Lisa.

La Concorde – an Egyptian obelisk from 12 centuries BC. Can you get over that? That is old!

Les Champs Elysées – I sort of messed this up. I said it meant Avenue of the (I can’t remember what). But it actually means Field of the Elysians – paradise for Greek heroes who died.

L’Arc de Triomphe, along with the Place de l’Etoile. I kept saying Place Etoile, and then stumbled a bit because I couldn’t remember if it was Place Etoile or Place de l’Etoile. But let these vlogs not stray too far from my usual bumbling ways, lest you think I am suave. Which I am not.
