In a world where moms paint their kids’ faces during the holidays
and sweeten them with worthy confections
(“What? You don’t want dinner?”)
and haul out the craft box to let them connect with their inner artist
and treat them to a nostalgic DVD that their mother actually saw in the movie theatre (Pete’s Dragon anyone?)
(« Hey mom – is that you? »)
and catch them playing outdoors (no!) and getting along (gasp!) and using their imagination! (can I get an “Amen?”)
and pick the first harvest of snow peas
before stopping to smell the lavender
and running up to check on the homemade bread for dinner …
in that world, eh … you win some, you lose some.
(My kitchen still smells charred).

What an idyllic life you and your family lead! I would love to immerse my daughter in this kind of lifestyle but unfortunately LA doesn’t quite lend itself to this.
One of these days I will move to France!! Hopefully sooner rather than later.

LOL… I watched Pete’s Dragon in the movie theater too! There must be a story behind that bread pan! My garden is off to a very late start with our crazy California weather.

With the bread, I tried to play with my gluten free recipes and make a runnier dough since it’s often too floury. It overfilled onto the electric grill and almost caught on fire.

It looks like you’re doing far more winning than losing! What’s a little bread char?

(Shh – these were the highlights in a day heavily filled with me on the computer or napping while my kids wreaked havoc).

Gorgeous. Although it’s hard to even tell what that bread was SUPPOSED to look like. But other than that mystery, ahhhh… gorgeous…

Please, as a mother of two almost-out-the-nest children, do me a favor: Pat yourself on the back. I know how much work went into all those wonderful moments and those are some lucky kids. Good job, M’lady.

Ah, Pete’s Dragon. My youngest loved that movie.
That’s what my homemade bread looks like too. 🙂

Your life??
I’m so tempted to just take it.

Not bad. Not bad at all. Though I don’t envy you cleaning the bread pan.

I saw Pete’s Dragon in the theater, too.
I’ll never forget Anne Murray singing “Candle on the Water” (although I suspect neither the song nor the movie is as good as I recall…).
Still. I loved that movie. And that song.
Sorry about the bread.
But the rest of the post?
Magic.
ladyjennie says
No the movie and the songs are all terribly 80’s. I still like it though. My kids can’t get enough. I never thought they would be so hooked.
Kate says
Your posts are always so magical, just like Julie said above!
